Little Free Libraries

Our Champaign-Urbana Kiwanis club has a strong focus on developing the reading skills of children in our community. When the COVID-19 pandemic began, the club was forced to halt our in-person reading programs.

To continue our literacy program for children, we installed our first Little Free Library (LFL) in 2020 in a public park near an Urbana elementary school. Our Kiwanis club has currently has five libraries and literacy corners and has developed partnerships with two laundromats, the Champaign-Urbana Mass Transit system, Soccer Planet, and the Unit 4 Westview Elementary School and PTA.

On Thursday, November 2nd, 2023, twenty former Westview teachers, friends, and Kiwanians gathered at Westview School in Champaign for the dedication of our club’s latest Little Free Library. The new LFL honors Jean A. Breeze, a beloved Westview kindergarten teacher and sister of Kiwanian Clark Breeze.
